Chemical Angels is a three-movement work for tape and piano composed in 1998. The work explores the interaction between acoustic piano and fixed electronic media, reflecting my growing interest in electroacoustic composition during the 1990s.
The work was selected for performance at the Midwest Composers Symposium 1998, hosted by the Center for New Music at the University of Iowa. It was performed by pianist Gabriela Lena Frank, who was then emerging as one of the most promising American composers and performers of her generation.
The official symposium programme also includes a composer biography documenting my academic studies and compositional activity at the time.
